Regional Affiliates
Regional Affiliate
The English Language Arts Council strives to assist members who live in areas of the province not served by one of the existing regional chapters by supporting the creation of an affiliate organization—the Regional Affiliate.
A Regional Affiliate is a somewhat looser form of organization than a regular ELAC regional organization. There is no single structure or form that an affiliate must take. In short, the idea is to allow any group of ELAC members within the province to come together for a project, workshop, reader's group or similar professional development activity.
The type of projects chosen by an affiliate would be up to the members of the affiliate. A group might wish to come together with a very short frame of reference just to host a single workshop or seminar. Perhaps another group might want to host a series of guest speakers or ELAC workshops. Another possibility would be support for the formation of an on-going reader's group. As long as the activity is something that will benefit the professional development of ELAC members, an affiliate can set its own frame of reference.
How does a Regional Chapter or Affiliate get formed?
Should a group of ELAC members wish to form a Regional Chapter or an Affiliate, they should contact a member of the Provincial Executive. The executive member will be happy to provide assistance so that an organizational meeting can be held.
Is funding available for an Affiliate?
Yes. The whole purpose of affiliates is to allow ELAC a vehicle to financially support professional development activities for those members who, through geographical location or other factors, cannot receive the benefits of a regular ELAC regional organization.
