ELAC Teacher Merit Award

About the Teacher Merit Award

This award recognizes excellence in the teaching of English Language Arts in Alberta classrooms. Those eligible for nomination must be teaching at least half time and have demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher in the Alberta public school system for a minimum of five years.

The additional criteria for the Teacher Merit Award require that the nominee:

  • exhibits excellence in teaching and a commitment to improving student learning;
  • promotes and works to improve the teaching of English Language Arts at the school, system and/or provincial level, and contributes to the professional development of teachers of English Language Arts;
  • contributes in some manner to English Language Arts Council (ELAC) at the local, provincial, national, or international level on behalf of English language arts such s local presentations, Alberta Voices, Celebrating Words and/or conferences; and
  • is a current member of ELAC of the ATA.

The honoree is eligible to receive one night's accommodation at the conference, a one-day meal plan and a complementary conference registration.
